Flooring Repair

Floors are a wear surface, but sometimes damage can occur which spoils the look of a floor prematurely.

Before specialising in cosmetic repair, I specialised in flooring installation and worked in some of the most elegant newbuilds and beautiful grade 1 listed buildings in London. From laminate floors to handwoven Japanese feature rugs, if you have damage to a floor, the chances are I’ve seen it before.

Hardwood, laminate, tile, and stone floors can be repaired by me, including damage such as burns, cracks, chips, dents, and scratches.

I also repair local damage to carpet floors and offer a range of professional cleaning methods to extract marks from paint and other stains. If the damage is too severe, a spot replacement repair can be performed with an offcut of your carpet, or by switching the damaged carpet with another section in a less conspicuous area.

See below for example projects.

Hardwood Repair - Water Damage

This engineered hardwood floor was damaged by water and wear leading to unsightly marks in an otherwise beautiful floor.

After a discussion the customer decided that he wanted the damaged areas painted to blend in with the surrounding floor, as replacement planks could not be sourced.

I used the highest quality solvent-thinned pigments, which are not soluble in water and have a tendency to work their way into the wood, making them far more hard wearing than traditional paint. I colour matched the paints in various lighting conditions. As this repair sits in full sunlight, it is important to get the base hue as good as possible.

The painted areas were then covered with several clear coats, which were polished/dulled to match the sheen level of the surrounding boards.

Floorboard Repair

These Georgian floorboards had deep chips and splits from nearly 100 years of use, and an annoying missing corner.

The chips were repaired using semi-flexible thermo-resins, which bond to wood extremely well and can self-repair over time. These resins are pigmented and can be mixed to match the colour of the surrounding surface.

The missing corner was rebuilt using a two-part polyester based filler, which is held in place by two screws embedded into the joist below, ensuring it won’t break off. The filler was then painted and lacquered for a long lasting and near-invisible repair.
