Furniture Repair
As a society we expend a lot of energy and resources choosing beautiful and functional furniture pieces for our homes, thus it’s economical to repair furniture rather than replace it. Not to mention the significant personal attachment to an heirloom cabinet, or the energy required to move bulky replacements.
I offer meticulous repairs for hard surfaces on furniture, whether it’s natural wood, Ikea laminate, French polish, or high gloss polyester finishes (such as on a grand piano).
I also repair structural issues such as handle replacement and re-hanging doors. However, as Riverbend is a mobile business, for every repair I travel to the furnishing, meaning enquiries regarding large-scale overhauls can’t be accommodated my me, but I can give advice on other reputable tradespeople.

Cabinet Repair
This antique cabinet belonging to my client’s grandfather had been damaged by movers, with scratches along the face, and missing beading in several places.
Due to the vast cost of having a cabinet fully rebuilt, sanded, and finished, the client decided to use cosmetic repair methods to match the original antiqued finish.
I repaired the damage by stabilising the cracks with glue, and implanting screws just far enough into the frame to support the new beading. I rebuilt the lost wood with a two part polyester based filler, then carefully hand paint the grain and texture, before sealing the area with a specialist repair lacquer and polishing and matting to match the current finish of the cabinet.
The cabinet could resume it’s position as a pleasant piece to look at and use, for 1/10th the cost of a rebuild.
